In 1970 the Cracow University of Technology was implemented structure institutes . In place of the existing eleven cathedrals, after their termination , four institutes have been established as the basic organizational units :
- Institute of Building Materials and Structures,
- Institute of Roads, Railways and Bridges ,
- Institute of Building Technology and Organization,
- Institute of Structural Mechanics.
In the early years, the Institutes based on non department structure . To perform various tasks were appointed ad hoc teams of research and teaching. In the beginning of 1974 these teams have been converted into departments. In the Institute of Roads, Railways and Bridges were created:
- Department of Roads and Traffic Engineering, converted in 1992 to the Chair of Roads and Traffic Engineering,
- Department of Iron Roads, converted in 1976 to the Department of Railway Roads,
- Department of Communication Systems , established in 1991 ,
- Department of Bridges and Tunnels, transferred in 1982 to the Institute of Building Materials and Structures,
- Team of Road Civil Engineering, operating in 1982-1990 .
